Eeyore with Scarf

Eeyore Scarf

My awesome mother-in-law has been working for sometime now to thoughtfully knit scarves that would be given to people receiving various treatments at her local hospital.  Her spirit animal is Eeyore, so I doodled up a version of him that would show up well at about a nickel size, and made some tags for her on my cutter.  The pose was heavily influenced by one I saw online, but I redrew the whole thing from scratch to clean it up and added the scarf.  Hopefully the little guy, the message of the tags, and the knowledge that someone is wishing the patients well will bring some joy to their hearts and speed along their healing.

Drawn in Krita, process GIF done in GIMP.

Skull-bot

Skull-bot

I scribbled this little guy out in a meeting, inspired by the Helldivers skull logo.  I also tried to keep the lines really light and took a picture before shading it.  Below are three different attempts to clean up the inks.  Left: in The GIMP using color levels to strip out everything but the black (learned from here).  Center: taking the levels one into Inkscape and tracing the bitmap with the brightness cutoff threshold at 0.55.  Right: again starting with the levels one, and having The GIMP define a path around the lines, then stroking them with a 1pt solid line, and filling.

I like the Inkscape trace the best.  I’ll probably color this guy sometime…

Cap’n-A Process Video

I decided to render a quick step-by-step process video for my Cap’n-A doodle.  (The movie was great!)  Most of the drawing was in MyPaint (some corrections in Krita) and textures in The GIMP.

1. Sketch
2. Subdue the sketch
3. Lines (front foot was junk)
4. New foot
5. Extra line weight and fills
6. Ground Shadow
7. Gray-tone colors
8. Add background texture
9. Layout shadows on figure
10. Color multiply the shadows
11. Add texture to figure

Supes vs Bats

supes vs bats

This was a doodle I drew last week during a long day of meetings.  Had some time to fart around on the computer so I thought I’d color it in MyPaint and comp it all together in The GIMP.  I actually enjoyed this movie, but I didn’t walk in with many expectations.

Stained Glass Cross Finished

Stained Glass Cross

Stained Glass Cross

This is how the final cross came out, now to see what it looks like on the screen at church.

I took my original doodle from the sketchbook into Inkscape and created a vector to color all the individual panes.  Then I took a few of those layers over to The GIMP for final compositing, lighting, and texture.

I haven’t done a vector helmet in a while and I thought Starlord’s mug was worth doodling.  Created in Inkscape with final texturing in the Gimp.

Coloring Nazgul Video

I haven’t done a video capture for awhile, so I thought I’d do one this weekend.  I originally tried capturing the sketch and inking phase, but my settings were all screwed up.  Another day I suppose…

Mouse Guard Colored

When I was getting this doodle ready for posting the other day, I liked how it looked in b&w so I saved that off, and decided to give it some rough colors.

Colors in MyPaint, composite in GIMP.

Random Robo

Posting has been a pretty lite lately, I’ve been working on a bunch of projects I can’t post.  So in a few moments of interim I found, I doodled this guy.  I hope to someday be able to draw sweet robots like Jake Parker, but the tiny details always escape me.
