2022 Turkey Trot

This drawing is a little overdue, but a good friend and I have an annual tradition of a run on Thanksgiving day and I thought I would memorialize it in a doodle.  The original wireframe sketch I actually did the morning before our run, but then I didn’t get a chance to finish it until this week when I had several flights to take.  The bib is kind of lame, but good enough to stop noodling on it for now.  I also wanted to start playing with Krita’s screen tones filters.

A few days ago was our little buddy Emerson’s birthday.  That reminded me of a doodle I drew for him a few years ago of his two favorite characters from Rescue Bots and Paw Patrol (both ironically named Chase).  I thought I would post it.

While working on a sticker design for a friend, I needed to draw a flaming skull, so I thought I would share it here too.  (No relation to any Marvel comic property, I assure you.)

Cloud Spotting

A few days ago, my wife and I were out for an evening walk and came upon a distinctive cloud.  I immediately reported that it looked like a Narwhal with a Disney Gummi Bear riding it.  She said she could see what I was talking about, but she was probably just being nice to me.  I felt compelled to take a picture and try drawing what I saw, which is below.  I’ll consider this a glimpse into how my brain works.

Squirrel Samurai

Part of getting down with school was the realization that I had some free time, and the scary prospect of what to do with it. So I found myself on a lengthy plane trip and decided to just start doodling something. I’m not sure how I arrived at this subject matter (actually started as a loosely sketched squirrel knight), but I was happy with how it finally came out. I was nice to draw something silly without any deadlines or expectations! I also had no references during the flight so please don’t be upset or offended if this doodle is riddled with inaccuracies of true historical squirrel armor.

Mandalorian – Two Year Coloring Process

So, it took me a really long time to figure out just the right shade for the diaper bag, otherwise I might have posted this in 2020.

In reality, adding a pandemic into going back to school and ever-increasing responsibility at work left me with almost no time for art or posting these last two years. But I finished up my degree this month and as the world settles into whatever this pseudo-post-COVID reality is going to be, I thought I would dust off the old blog. I’ve got a few projects I took photos of from the last two years to post along with any new stuff I work on, but I wanted to start with coloring my last post from 2020.

Hopefully I can find time to get back to some more frequent posting, if anyone is still out there reading blogs.
